When Justin and I met for his Akron senior pictures shoot, one of the first things he told me was, “I don’t like my smile.” That’s not an uncommon thing for…well…anyone to say, to be honest. Put someone in front of a camera and their insecurities are bound to surface, but as Justin proves in several of the pictures in this preview, there’s no reason for any of us to be self-conscious.

I speak from experience. I don’t like my smile either. I tend to show too much gums, especially when I find something really funny. Drives me crazy. I’ve tried to perfect the three-quarter, casual smile with very mixed results. But as I’ve learned over the past couple of years, everyone’s smile is different and beautiful in its own way. Your smile is uniquely you and uniquely yours, so don’t hide it and don’t be afraid to let it loose it when someone sticks a camera in your face.

You’ll see that it didn’t take long for Justin to warm up during our shoot. Taking some shots of him with his Honda dirt bike contributed to that, I’m sure, and so did me reminding him that his mom would like to see at least a few pictures of him smiling. These are a few of my favorites from our shoot in Wadsworth. Visit Windowsill Photography if you’re interested in having senior portraits taken, and be sure to check us out on Facebook!

I love working with seniors. My goal is to have fun with all my clients on all my shoots, but high school seniors just make it easy. We had a blast doing Bryana’s Akron senior pictures recently, and we were treated to some absolutely beautiful light. Bryana was a natural in front of the camera, and by the end of the shoot she barely needed any instruction at all.

Here are some favorites from our day in Wadsworth. Fortunately, you can’t see the swarm of mosquitoes that attacked us in the woods, but it was well worth it. Good luck during your senior year, Bryana!

Senior pictures at Medina Square

Above all else, I strive to have fun on my shoots. The more relaxed and comfortable my clients are while they’re in front of the camera, the more natural they’ll feel when I’m clicking away and the more open they’ll be to whatever ideas and inspiration may strike while we’re out and about (like putting them in front of a pile of old tires, for example). Simply put, a fun shoot produces a great photo gallery.

Of course, when you’re dealing with so many different people and so many different personalities, it’s only natural that some shoots are more fun than others. Spencer and I met at the Medina Square a few weeks ago for his senior portraits, and we instantly hit it off. Spencer — who loves cars, plays about a dozen instruments and is in the midst of his first season running cross country — also enjoys photography, so he and I had a great time looking for unique places to shoot as we got to know each other a bit. In fact, I wound up with so many great shots from this session that I had a hard time choosing which ones to include in this preview, and I’m dreading having to cut the shoot down for the final gallery.

Good luck during your senior year, Spencer, and thanks again for a great time!
