My wife and I have three kids, so needless to say, our house can often be crazy. But with one girl and two boys, we also have some semblance of balance within our craziness. My daughter can confide in my wife for the types of pre-teen questions that dads are ill-equipped to handle (that list grows by the day), and my boys can turn to me for all the gross, dirty, nasty boy things that moms would rather not have to even think about. Even better, no gender ever really reigns supreme in our house: sometimes, Legos rule the day, and others, the boys have to sit through a “Good Luck, Charlie” marathon on Disney Channel. Ah, balance.

I had the privilege of taking some Olmsted Falls family pictures of this awesome family. They obviously skew toward one gender, but by the look on his face, Dad couldn’t be any happier about it. Balance goes out the window when you’re outnumbered 5-to-1, and they definitely make it work. During our time at Fortier Park, these girls were the life of the party, particularly the youngest, a little firecracker who couldn’t wait for me to turn the camera her way!

Here are some of my favorite shots from the day, including a couple that prove boys and girls agree on one thing: Mom and Dad kissing is just gross! Good luck, Dad!

Making Mom and Dad proud

Most times, when someone contacts me for a portrait session, they want to get some new pictures of their young kids, commemorate an upcoming birthday or, most recently, get some photos for their holiday cards. Elaine, on the other hand, had something different in mind. Her daughter is about to embark on her new career with the United States Air Force, and she wanted to get some family pictures done before Rachel headed off to basic training. Needless to say, I was honored and excited to be a part of such a memorable moment in this family’s life.

So I headed out to their house and had a great time with Elaine, her husband and two grown kids. This weather has been fantastic and led to some great shots around their property. It was a real treat to be able to watch them interact with each other, and you could tell they were all extremely proud of Rachel.

Good luck, Rachel! Hope you guys all enjoy this preview!

This is December in Ohio?

December is upon us, which typically means freezing temperatures, endless clouds and sloppy roads. But when we headed out to the Wolf Creek Environmental Center on December 1, we were greeted with blue skies and sunshine. Not that we were complaining!

This family had a lot of fun hanging out with each other, but my favorite moments were when Andrew absolutely lit up each time he posed for some pictures with Dad. What a treat to spend the morning with these guys! Here’s a look at some of the keepers from the shoot.

The cute hat club

I used to wear a hat everywhere. It wasn’t really a fashion statement — I just was too lazy to comb my hair, particularly in college (where I really was too lazy to do much of anything, come to think of it). But my hats of choice were worn out, beat up ball caps of some kind, typically displaying one Cleveland sports team or another, and I’d venture to guess I never looked as cute as these kiddos in any of my grungy hats.

We’ve been treated to some beautiful weather so far this fall, but still there was a chill in the air when we headed out to the Brecksville Metroparks a couple weeks ago. This brother and sister were doing just fine in their cozy hats, though, and flashed plenty of adorable smiles along the way. Here are a few early keepers!
